What does Korea's KC conformity register show about Chinese vape factories?

Korea's conformity-assessment register, published by the National Radio Research Agency, carries the manufacturer, the country of manufacture, the applicant and the model name in a single row, with Excel and CSV download and no login or Korean identity required. As of 11 October 2026 it is the closest public analogue anywhere in the Asia-Pacific region to a US FCC grantee record, and Korea publishes no shipment-level trade data at all, which is why a certification register carries the factory-to-importer link instead.

What fields does the register publish?

Search and result fields are 기기분류 (equipment class), 인증/등록일자 (certification or registration date), 신청자 (applicant), 기자재명칭 (equipment name), 모델명 (model name), 인증/등록번호, 식별번호, 제조자 (manufacturer) and 제조국 (country of manufacture). There are Excel and CSV download buttons on the search page and no account of any kind is required.

Read as a graph, one row is three nodes and two edges: a Chinese manufacturer, a Korean applicant that is usually the importer or the brand owner, and a specific model that belongs to both. Any vape device with a battery or a charging circuit needs this certification to be sold legally in Korea, so the register covers the hardware population rather than a sample of it.

That is the same reason FCC filings are among the highest-value sources in this dataset's registry: a certification regime asks for the manufacturer by name because the regulator needs to know who to hold responsible, and the answer is published. Device classification by HS 8543.40 sizes the flow; the certification record names the parties inside it.

02

What do you overlay on the applicant name?

Four free Korean sources, in this order. The ministry's foreign-invested-company list is an XLS of 19,651 rows carrying 회사명, industry code, 주요투자국가, primary investor country, and location, published under an unrestricted licence. Filtering investor country against wholesale, tobacco, electronics and e-commerce codes produces the Chinese-controlled Korean entities that act as importer of record, including entities that appear in no trade statistic at all because they are registered under the foreign-investment promotion act.

  1. The conformity register, filtered on country of manufacture, is the factory-to-importer spine and needs no credentials.
  2. The foreign-invested-company list adds Chinese ownership at country granularity against the Korean applicant names.
  3. The national pension service's enrolled-workplace register adds address, industry code and a headcount proxy for every real trading entity.
  4. The tax office's business-registration status API says whether an entity is still trading, suspended or closed, and when it closed, up to a hundred registration numbers per call.
  5. The patent office's search service catches brands that certify under one name and sell under another, through class-34 marks and design rights.

The limit of the foreign-investment list is worth stating: it records that a Korean company has an investor from a given country, not which company that investor is. That flags an entity; it does not establish a relationship at the standard this site publishes to. Use the certification register to generate the link and the investment list to corroborate it, and carry the pair as inferred unless a record names the parent outright.

03

What does Korea not publish?

Any shipment-level or company-level trade record. The customs statistics portal publishes HS codes at two, four, six and ten digits by country, customs house and province, monthly, and no company names. The designated trade-statistics agency gates named records to your own company's data behind a certificate login, and its company-level products are peer benchmarks and rankings rather than named third-party shipments.

04

What is the highest-value thing still missing?

A public register of licensed tobacco importers and distributors under the tobacco business act. It would close the importer node directly, in the way the conformity register closes the manufacturer node, and it was not located or verified. That is the single most valuable unresolved lead in Korea.

Where a listed Korean distributor exists, the corporate-disclosure system fills part of the gap: its annual report's business-content narrative carries supplier and customer concentration, and the structured endpoints cover largest-shareholder status, largest-shareholder changes and investments in other corporations. The concentration detail sits in narrative XML rather than in an endpoint, so it is a parsing job rather than an API call, and it only covers the handful of distributors that are listed.

For the same question asked of Japan, a country that regulates nicotine vapes in a way that suppresses disclosure rather than forcing it, see which Japanese records name vape importers.

Questions people ask

Is Korea's KC conformity register free to use?
Yes. The search page requires no login, no Korean identity and no account, and it offers Excel and CSV download of the result set. It is one of only two sources in this research that pair a named manufacturer with a named local entity per model at no cost.
Does Korea publish vape import records with company names?
No. Korean customs statistics go to ten HS digits by country, customs house and province, with no company field, and the designated statistics agency restricts named records to a company's own data. The certification register is the substitute, and it is a better one than most jurisdictions have.
